Interbrand is shuffling its deck of top executives, with David Martin stepping in as U.S. president, replacing Martyn Straw after his six-year stint. Straw is staying in the family as he heads to sister Omnicom company BBDO as chief strategy officer.

"[David Martin] brings a great deal of strategic thinking to the table as well as client focus and an ability to lead people," said Chuck Brymer, Interbrand CEO. "He makes a perfect partner from which to grow the U.S. business. He's a terrific client person. It's a natural progression for him."

Martin is a 13-year company veteran, having most recently served as U.S. executive director for four years. "Branding has transformed significantly during the time I've been here," said Martin, who is based in New York. "It was about an execution's name, logo and tagline. Now it's about the fundamental infrastructure, the psychology and understanding the needs of the target audience. It went from being about 'me the company' to being about 'you the target,' and what you get as a benefit of having a relationship with me."

Interbrand has a stable of clients that includes BMW, IBM, JP Morgan Chase, New York Life, Starbucks and PepsiCo. Martin said the company will announce major wins in the professional services and banking sectors shortly. The firm recently signed global publishing company Elsevier Science.

"The industry had a tough year last year; we held our head above water and kept ourselves profitable," said Martin. "[My goal] is to insure the good momentum of the first quarter continues forward."

Interbrand provides a variety of services including product naming, packaging design and brand strategy, valuation and research.
