Unsend! In a survey conducted for the American Management Association and The ePolicy Institute, 13 percent of respondents said employee e-mail has led to lawsuits against their employers. (The poll was fielded in June among 840 companies.) Twenty percent knew of cases in which employee e-mail had been

subpoenaed. While 79 percent said their company has a written policy on e-mail use and content, many fewer (25 percent) knew of a case in which an employee had been fired for violating it. Even when misuse of the technology doesn't lead to disaster, e-mail eats up vast amounts of employee time, as the chart here indicates.
