Providing valuable educational and professional development opportunities to the coatings industry, the FSCT will offer a series of informative short courses prior to ICE 2007. On October 1-2, 2007, a two-day program on "Fundamentals of Polymer Technology" will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention
Designed for chemists working on resin synthesis, production, or testing, as well as sales and marketing personnel, the course explores basic polymer chemistry. Industry experts will focus on what polymers are and why they function as binders in coatings. Attendees will learn key application aspects of resins and crosslinkers used as binders. Among the topics to be covered are synthesis schemes for different polymer chemistries, criteria for choosing specific resin binders, and major crosslinkers used for high performance coatings.
The preliminary schedule includes the following presentations:
Monday, October 1
8:30-10:00 am -- Basics of Polymer Chemistry -- Michael Van De Mark, University of Missouri-Rolla
