J. Ray McDermott, S.A. Awarded Contract for UnocalThailand's North Pailin Project.

J. Ray McDermott, S.A., a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc. (NYSE:MDR), has been awarded a contract by Unocal Thailand, Ltd., for fabrication, transportation, installation, hook-up and pre-commissioning

of the North Pailin Development Project in the Gulf of Thailand. Financial terms of the contract are not being disclosed.

The project represents the second phase of development for the Pailin Field, which is Unocal Thailand's largest single project in terms of infrastructure. J. Ray McDermott's scope of work includes the North Pailin Central Processing Platform (NPCPP) and a tripod-supported flare bridge assembly (NPFSS).

The NPCPP sub-structure will be a conventional eight-leg jacket. The topsides facility will be constructed in modules, comprising a modular support frame (2,460 tons) and three modules (4,620 tons), along with a 400-foot flare bridge (330 tons). The total fabrication weight, including topsides modules, jacket and piles, is 12,500 tons.

The Pailin structures will be fabricated at J. Ray McDermott's Batam Island facility. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2001 and be completed in 13 months. J. Ray McDermott will then transport the structures to the site by barge to begin installation. The combination derrick and lay barge, DB30, which has a lift capacity of 3,080 tons, will perform the installation work. J. Ray McDermott's DB26 will support hook-up and commissioning offshore.

The North Pailin Platform will process well fluids received from satellite wellhead platforms by subsea pipelines and export a daily average of 200 million cubic feet of natural gas and 11,000 barrels of condensate.
