VW production chief wants to fill factories; German brand wants to take Toyota head-on.(News)

Volkswagen will focus on increasing productivity and quality at its underperforming and underused German factories.

Jochem Heizmann, VW group's new head of quality, said his goal is to return all VW group factories to full use. "We have enormous potential from a product standpoint across the group," Heizmann told Automotive News Europe in an interview here. "Toyota will have tough competition."

Heizmann's comments are some of the most detailed on the carmaker's strategy since Martin Winterkorn took over as VW CEO on January 1.
