A stretch-breaking process for continuously making strong spun yarns is the subject of International Patent WO 2006/020404. Stowe-Pharr Mills Inc, the applicant, says a key feature of its method is that no intermediate processes are performed between the stretch-breaking and spinning phases, which helps to maintain the alignment and minimize the damage to the staple fibres.
The Patent also claims:
* the resulting yarns have higher tensile and flexural strengths than those made by similar, competitive processes;
* less than 15% waste is produced; a
