Protective fabrics based on staple fibres.(Safety and protection)

A US company has patented a multi-layer composite fabric claiming that it is cheaper, lighter in weight and offers the same level of protection from attacks with spikes as more conventional materials made from fine, continuous filaments.

In International Patent WO2005/084408, Warwick Mills Inc of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, discloses that its invention combines small and large yarns of both continuous and staple fibres.
