A new machine for printing bound copies of books in-store is to be made available at the flagship store of academic bookseller Blackwell from Monday (27 April).
The Espresso Book Machine at Blackwell's branch in Charing Cross, London, enables customers to choose from thousands of titles, including rare texts, from a digital file onsite or online at http://www.blackwell.co.uk and have their new paperback book printed at 112 pages per minute, complete with colour covers. Customers may also upload their own book from a CD or flash drive.
Blackwell's Espresso Book Machine was developed by On Demand Books.
The cost of printing most books in the archive will be the same as the buying them over the counter, but self-published books and titles that are out of print will cost GBP0.10 per page, The Daily Telegraph reported.
