PROJECT OVERVIEW

Canada-based NORANDA INC. currently operates a copper smelter with an installed production capacity of 160,000 tons per year in Chile. And, the company has been mulling over plans to expand the output of its Altonorte, previously known as Refimet, plant since the end of 1998. And, NORANDA has now decided to move ahead with the upgrade project as a result of the planned development of the Chilean Antamina copper/zinc mine in which it holds a 37.5% interest.
