WE'RE A RUGGED BUSINESS COMMUNITY RAISED ON STEEL, MANUFACTURING AND THE WATERS OF OUR GREAT LAKE. SO IT'S NO WONDER WE LOVE THE HISTORIC RECYCLED WOOD IN THUNDER[??]TECH'S NEW CONFERENCE ROOM, DIGIKNOW'S PINBALL ARCADE AND GRANDMA TORCHIA'S ITALIAN WEDDING SOUP. HERE ARE 20 OF OUR BUSINESS FAVORITES --ALL WORTHY OF A LITTLE INK.

Dressed Businessman

John Heaney has an eye for great design. As senior vice president of Nesco in Mayfield Heights and owner of Orange Envelopes, Heaney integrates design into even the most mundane business processes. "I think an invoice should be something that's beautiful," he says.

At his former manufacturing job, Heaney used orange to brand his business, sending out all its correspondence in orange envelopes. The practice inspired the name of his new venture, Orange Envelopes, which helps companies develop a distinct image. Heaney even adds a touch of orange to everything he wears. He has a closet full of orange items, from a pair of Ferragamo driving shoes to a Lacoste polo. "If I don't wear orange, people ask me if something's wrong," Heaney says.

* Favorite stores: Kilgore Trout, where Heaney stocks up on Zegna suits, which he calls "timeless and luxurious." For everyday wear, he stops by Ticknors.

* Three ways to spruce up your closet: 1. Find a good tailor. 2. Don't be afraid to be distinctive. 3. Buy quality. "I'd rather have one pair of Ferragamo shoes than three pairs of cheap shoes," Heaney says.

* One item that should be in every man's closet: A navy blazer--you can wear it with almost anything, to anywhere.

New Wellness Idea

The Cleveland Clinic is getting employees to eat their fruits and veggies by bringing the fresh produce to them. (And we're not talking about simply putting a bowl of apples and oranges on the cafeteria line.) Every Wednesday afternoon from June through the first week of October, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the health care system hosts a farmers market on the lawn behind the InterContinental Hotel. The 40-plus local farmers sell everything from in-season crops to homemade hummus and salsa to handmade beeswax candles.

The enticements to get out and buy include live music, generous samples of a dish featuring the fruit or vegetable of the week (a tasty whole wheat pasta salad made with roasted garlic, for example), free reusable shopping bags and complimentary health screenings.
