ASPARAGUS PRODUCTION POTENTIAL IN INDONESIA NOT YET MAXIMALLY DEVELOPED

There is a big potential for producing asparagus in Indonesia, especially in Java, which has an ideal climate for asparagus cultivation. The plant which belongs to the Liliaceae Species can be cultivated for its shoot which measures 15 to 20 cm longs. The most cultivated species of asparagus is the white asparagus.

In Indonesia, there are five companies producing canned asparagus, with a total production capacity of 16,485 tons/year. In terms of production capacity, the biggest producer is PT Asparagus Nusantara of the Rigumas Group, with a production capacity of 6,480 to
