LithChem is in the final testing stages of a lithium-ion electrolyte HF-reduction device, the J-RESIN SYSTEM. The device can effectively reduce the HF level in lithium-ion battery electrolyte down to <5ppm HF, regardless of the initial electrolyte HF level. The J-RESIN SYSTEM incorporates a specialized

resin in its design, which is an easy-to-use device that is extremely efficient and effective in removing free HF from lithium-ion electrolyte. The system can also remove traces of color from lithium-ion electrolyte.

The current test unit, about 25cm^sup 2^ and 50cm tall, has the capacity to remove approximately 80,000 parts of free HF, regardless of the level of HF in any particular electrolyte. Example: for electrolyte with an acid number of 8()ppm HF, the system can treat 1,000kg (80,000ppm ? 80ppm/ kg) of this electrolyte with a resulting acid number of <5ppm acid. Likewise if 40ppm HF electrolyte were to be treated, the system would reduce the HF level of 2000kg (80,000ppm ? 40ppm/kg) of that material down to <5ppm HF. Other systems with varying capacities will also soon be available.
