Iveco Motors of North America Inc., Carol Stream, Ill., a Fiat Powertrain Technologies company, said it has reached an agreement with MQ Power, Carson, Calif., to supply engines for MQ's KD series of industrial generator sets.

The Iveco Motors NEF and Cursor Tier 2 diesel gen-drives engines will be available on six MQ Power KD sets with outputs from 80 kW to 420 kW, on a non-exclusive basis. Volvo diesels will continue to be offered as well.

Specifically, the NEF engines will power standby sets with outputs from 57 kW to 215 kW, while the Cursor diesels will power sets from 211 kW to 396 kW. The KD series sets powered by the NEF and Cursor gen-drives will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of this year.

The KD sets are industrial power packages designed with a choice of a standard weather-protective or sound-attenuated housing with skid-mount or sub-base tank-mount configurations. The KD sets use a brushless alternator, have voltage regulation of +/-1% no load to full load and use a closed-circuit cooling system with an ambient temperature rating of 104[degrees]F.

The NEF and Cursor diesels are designed with a rear gear drive design that Iveco Motors said enables the engine noise levels to stay low and improves the cooling performance because of the better airflow on the front section of the engine.

MQ Power will be equipping the lower output KD generator sets with Iveco Motors NEF model 45TM1 and NEF 45TM2 diesels. Both are 4.5 L, four-cylinder inline, turbocharged and aftercooled engines with two valves per cylinder. Both models use a mechanical fuel injection system with the injection pump equipped with an electronic governor control system for frequency control and fast load response.

MQ Power's midoutput generators will be powered by Iveco Motors Cursor 9, 10 and 13 models. The Cursor engines are six-cylinder inline, turbocharged, aftercooled diesels with four-valves-per-cylinder configuration and displacements of 8.7 L, 10.3 L and 12.9 L, respectively. The engines use an electronic fuel injection system that decreases fuel consumption values to as low as 0.325 lb./hp-hr, Iveco Motors said. The Cursor model 9 is equipped with an electronic common rail fuel system, while the Cursor 10 and 13 have an electronic unit injector system.

Apparently, the relationship between the two companies will expand even further, as MQ said it has placed an order for Iveco Motors V-8 Vector engine, which has a net standby power range of up to 750 kW, for use in its larger output sets.
