Food For Life, Corona, Calif., pioneer of "live sprouted-grain" bread, has introduced two low-carbohydrate breads to support the growing demands of low-carb dieters and diabetics.
After many years of criticism from mainstream health professionals, the
low-carb diet is winning praise in many quarters based on new research that shows significant benefits in lowering weight and cholesterol. In the context of nutrition, biogenics relates to all foods such as seeds, whole grains, nuts and legumes that, if sprouted, have the potential of generating new life. Sprouted grain products are the cornerstone of Food For Life."We've seen much positive attention in the past few months to low-carb lifestyles and the Biogenic Nutrition System," Gary Torres, Food For Life director of sales and marketing, said in a statement. "This is not a fad but a realization that a low carb regimen is highly effective for weight loss and even diabetes. We've always adjusted our product line to respond to what our health-conscious customers are telling us."
Available in Original and Savory Herb flavors, Food For Life low carb breads can substitute for conventional breads. They also provide dieters and diabetics with food options previously forbidden, such as sandwiches, French toast and croutons.
Each slice contains three grams of "effective carbohydrates," calculated by deducting total grams of fiber from total carb grams per serving. By limiting carb intake, individuals can reduce carbs as fuel for the body and burn more fat instead.
