Kumato debuts in U.K.

U.K. supermarket chain Sainsbury's is offering customers a new breed of black tomato called a kumato, reports Reuters. A super-sweet tomato that originated in the Galapagos Islands, the kumato has been developed to withstand the dry, salty growing conditions of the Mediterranean. It contains

high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants, and is believed by some to be an aphrodisiac.

Sainbury's says the story of the kumato's aphrodisiac qualities began when the seeds were fermented and spread by giant tortoises after they consumed the tomato. Apparently, those tortoises mated considerably more often than those who didn't eat kumatos.
