David E. Gardner, a former president and CEO of Alfred Nickles Bakery, Inc., died December 12. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, and a WWII veteran, Nickles graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1948 and began working for Alfred Nickles Bakery. A graduate of the American Institute of Baking, he

became president of Alfred Nickles in 1980 and CEO in 1995. David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie Nickles Gardner and children David, Ernie, Phil and Mary Slee.
