Sand Reclamation.

Fata Aluminum is offering a line of thermal and mechanical foundry sand reclamation systems. For sand containing organic binders, the firm's Hot-Rec system uses a preliminary treatment to eliminate metallic or nonmetallic impurities and reduce the sand to a pre-established grain size. A screw

conveyor carries a metered amount of sand into a cylindrical calcination chamber with a stainless steel base plate, which mounts fluidization nozzles with co-axially mounted supply pipes. Gas and air are mixed inside the combustion chamber. A valve regulates feeding of the sand from the chamber to the pre-cooler. A countercurrent of air passes through the regenerated sand, cooling it to 392F (200C). The sand then passes into the final cooler, which also has a fluidized bed chamber. Finally, the sand passes out of the cooler through a vibratory screen to eliminate impurities. For green sand containing bentonite, the system processes the sand similarly to sand with organic binders. However, the system also dries the green sand with hot fumes from the calcination furnace and mechanically treats the green sand twice, the first time until residual soluble fines are reduced to less than 2% and the second to less than 0.3%.
