Liquid crystal polymer production increased

Polyplastics Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, plans to increase its capacity for liquid crystal polymer (LCP) at its Fuji City site by 2,000 ton/yr later this year. Polyplastics is a joint venture between Daicel Chemicals Industries, Ltd., Tokyo, and Ticona, Frankfurt, Germany, the engineering polymers business

of Celanese AG, Frankfurt. Together with Polyplastics' existing capacity of 2,900 ton/yr at Fuji, and Ticona's 3,200 ton/yr LCP capacity in Shelby, NC, they will have a global capacity of 8,000 ton/yr.

The added capacity will use new polymerization technology developed by Polyplastics that will extend the LCP product line to grades with higher heat deflection temperatures and melt viscosity.
