Spokane Rock Products Inc., of Spokane, is the apparent low bidder on a project to reconstruct a threequarter mile stretch of Haven Street in Hillyard that serves as the southbound leg of the Market Street couplet.
Spokane Rock's bid was about $1.3 million.
Haven carries two lanes of southbound
The city of Spokane gave the Hillyard Neighborhood Council authority to decide how to handle traffic during the project, and the neighborhood council decided to close that section of Haven completely for the anticipated onemonth duration of the work, says Staci Lehman, spokeswoman for the city's engineering department. She says work will begin May 1.
Lehman says the city told the neighborhood council that the time to complete the project could be reduced from more than two months to about one month if the street were closed completely.
She says that the community there is mostly residential, with few businesses, and that there are several arterials nearby which also figured into the neighborhood council's decision. Lehman says detour routes have yet to be established.
The city of Spokane will pay for the project with funds from street bonds authorized by voters in 2004.
