Will there be barking in your workplace for Take Your Dog to Work Day?

Just in case you missed it Friday, June 20th is Take Your Dog to Work Day.  Pet Sitters International began encouraging employers to celebrate the day in 1999.  They have a fun website, takeyourdog.com, which includes information about participating, successes and pet friendly employers. They even sponsor a photo contest for participants.

If your work environment is not conducive to parading pooches the web site is certainly entertaining.  If you already allow dogs or would like to try the concept Take Your Dog to Work Day offers a comprehensive guide that spells out rules pet owners should sign off on and a number of recommended activities.  For a non pet friendly workplace they suggest encouraging employees to bring in photos of their dogs.  I also thought stuffed dogs would be fun with the right crowd of employees.

It may sound wacky but it could be worth a try.  Employees really like it when we occasionally step out of our comfort zone and have fun.  Remind me to tell you about the time when the boss dressed up as a chicken.  Share a story with HR Answer Blog readers about a time when executives took a break from taking themselves so seriously.
