Have a good howl!
First a bit of background: My husband and I both have home offices and they are on opposite sides of the house. My office used to be a garage, so there is a door cutting it off from the rest of the house. Our 4 dogs live in the main portion of the house, and our 2 cats live in my portion of the house. We call these places Catland and Dogland. Seems more complicated than it is, but this is best for all involved.
Anyway, my husband left yesterday to run an errand. I was working away in my office, so the dogs were on their own. After about 30 minutes, I hear a few squeaks, then a symphony. The dogs were all howling at the top of their lungs. One has husky blood and the best overall vocal tone, but 2 of the others were also quite melodic. The fourth dog sort of barked in succession.
It was really quite beautiful. I snuck over to the window in the door that separates Catland from Dogland to check them out. They were having fun. This was not distress howling, this was singing. You can tell when a dog is smiling, and they were smiling.
We all have ways to live out loud. We all have our own ways of howling.
Have a good howl today, won't you?
BTW - I wish I had recorded the canine symphony, but like most spontaneously wonderful moments, they just happen.
Here they are:
