1000 service engineers connected via GPRS 24x7

Established in 1989 as Royal Mail Engineering and Construction, Romec now has a turnover of around 200m. It is arguably the UK's leading facilities management

(FM) company, backed by the use of advanced technology to provide a competitive edge that no other can match.

Romec employs 1000 service engineers to handle 500,000 service calls related to fire security, network services, document management and maintenance to receptions, mailroom management and cleaning services. Romec provides these FM services to The Royal Mail Group and a growing range of blue chip clients including Marks & Spencer and Standard Life - spanning 200,000 sites in the UK. In 2003, Haden Building Management Ltd (part of Balfour Beatty) acquired 49% of the company.

Although a Geac System21 enterprise resource planning (ERP) customer for many years it has also deployed numerous third party systems for Service Management, Job Management, Costing and Purchasing. It has also used various mobile data solutions to help manage workflow for its mobile engineers. But these systems were cumbersome and complicated to use in the field and the engineers often reverted to using their mobile phones and paperwork.
