Running on budget and on schedule,
the expansion of the Orgeon
Convention Center (OCC) will soon
double the size of the existing
facility. When completed in April
2003, the Portland-based facility
will contain 255,000 square feet
of contiguous exhibit space, a new
35,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom,
a 25,000-square-foot juniior
Ballroom, up to 60,000 square feet
of meeting space, a weather-
protected underground parking
garage, and several ecology-minded
design elements. Among the
center's green features are a
"rain garden," a series of ponds
that will filter rainwater from
the roof before releasing the
water into the nearby Willamette
River; and extensive use of
skylights, which will flood the
center with natural light and
reduce the need to use electrical
energy.

The Washington State Convention and
Trade Center completed a much-
anticipated expansion in July 2001,
which doubled its total exhibition
space to a total of 207,000 square
feet. One of the most dramatic
features of the expanded center is
a glass-enclosed function space
