The news media should have been granted access to President Clinton's Whitewater deposition in the criminal trials of Arkansas governor Jim Guy Tucker and the McDougals. A federal judge denied the media's request, saying they did not have a constitutional right to it and that access was satisfied by written transcripts of the trial. The judge also probably thought that the tape could be misused for political purposes.
