The American Center for Law and Justice, an international public interest law firm, said today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of school vouchers puts religious schools on equal footing with other educational institutions

and guarantees that parents will have a true choice in determining how best to educate their children.

"This is a landmark decision that will revolutionize the educational system in this country," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, which filed an amicus brief with the high court on this case. "The Supreme Court properly concluded that parents who want to use school vouchers at religious schools should not be targeted for discrimination in the educational process. The court's decision places religious schools on equal footing with other educational options and now provides parents with true choice in the educational process. The argument that the use of vouchers for religious schools violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment by endorsing religion was flawed from the very start. The Supreme Court correctly rejected the argument and sent a clear message: school vouchers cannot be used to discriminate against religious schools."

The Supreme Court's decision today came in a case out of Cleveland, Ohio where the focus was on a voucher program that provides tuition vouchers that can be used at private or parochial schools that participate in the program. The Ohio Supreme Court approved the program, but a federal appeals court struck it down as unconstitutional.

The American Center for Law and Justice filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the Supreme Court in support of the Ohio voucher plan.
