JACKSON -- The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS), Division of Child Support Enforcement, collected a total of $21.5 million in past due child support through interception of state and federal tax refunds due absent parents for 2002.
Collections for 2003 currently exceed $18.5 million. Child Tax Credits will also be subject to tax intercept for past due child support. Additional collections from these tax credits will be added to the amount collected in 2003.
MDHS said many families who could benefit from this service have not made application.
