Middle Tennessee--Nissan Motor Corp. plans to spend $1 billion expanding two central Tennessee plants, creating a total of 2,000 new jobs at the facilities in Decherd and Smyrna, southeast of Nashville.

The Japanese-owned automaker announced that it would more than triple its Decherd engine and transaxle factory to supply components for vehicles built in the United States and Mexico.
