Mar. 4--Some central Maine car dealerships are reporting a spike in sales of sport utility vehicles and light trucks because of the sharply increased interest in them.

The fever is fueled by a federal tax deduction that gives business owners up to $100,000 on new or used vehicles weighing more than 6,000 pounds. The growth comes on the back of a resilient auto market last year -- unusual for an economy more accustomed to hearing about job losses.
