Mar. 3--A proposal to reduce Montgomery's 10-percent sales-tax rate to 9.5 percent earned mixed reviews from some local business owners Wednesday.
Some of them questioned whether such a small decrease could make much difference in competing with lower-tax shopping destinations.
In a meeting Tuesday, city and county officials discussed reducing the sales-tax burden by at least 0.5 percent, possibly offsetting the revenue loss with a property tax increase. They established a commission to examine the issue.
