Middletown, R.I., Board Approves Housing Complex for Mentally Ill.

Dec. 1--MIDDLETOWN, R.I.--The Zoning Board of Review granted a permit for an affordable housing complex for the mentally ill on West Main Road last week, despite members' concerns over traffic hazards.

Newport County Mental Health Center and the Church Community Housing Corporation, an affordable-housing nonprofit agency, pitched the project to the board with the help of state Sen.

Theresa Paiva-Weed, who acted as attorney for both organizations.
