A well-known environmental group is suing Tyson Foods, alleging Superfund reporting violations surrounding ammonia emissions from chicken waste created at four Kentucky farms.
``It comes back to too many chickens in too small space producing too much waste,'' said Aloma Dew, conservation organizer for the Kentucky Sierra Club.
The chicken waste is releasing enough ammonia gas to trigger the Superfund law, Dew said. Facilities that release more than 100 pounds of ammonia per day must report those emissions, the Sierra Club said.
