Employers are breathing a sigh of relief after the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) decision to rescind its interpretation of a court ruling that could have bankrupted employers or diminished retiree health benefits.

The agency dropped all actions against employers accused of violating the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) by offering different health care benefits for Medicare-eligible retirees and younger retirees. Officials plan to formulate a new policy. Individuals can still bring charges against employers that they think broke that law.
