Microsoft settles temps lawsuit

Microsoft's $97 million settlement with temporary employees who claimed they were unfairly denied full-time status has again spotlighted employee classification issues for firms that rely heavily on contract workers. And while there are important lessons to learn from the case, analysts expect the core issues to linger for some time.

In December, some 8,000 to 12,000 temps who worked for Microsoft from 1987 to the present are now potentially eligible to receive retroactive stock purchase plan benefits from the settlement monies
