Apple, IBM veteran to head Qualcomm's legal team

In a major coup for the company's busy legal team, wireless communications technology developer Qualcomm Inc. http://www.qualcomm.com today announced that veteran tech industry lawyer Donald J. Rosenberg has been named as the company's executive VP, general counsel and corporate secretary.  

Rosenberg joins Qualcomm from Apple Inc. http://www.apple.com, where he served as senior VP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Prior to that, he spent more than 30 years at IBM Corp. http://www.ibm.com, where he held numerous positions, including assistant general counsel for litigation, senior VP and general counsel.

Rosenberg will be responsible for all legal matters and the company's legal strategy worldwide. He succeeds Lou Lupin, who abruptly resigned http://www.edn.com/article/CA6468296.html from his position as Qualcomm's executive VP and general counsel last month. Lupin's exit came just as Qualcomm was dealt a series of unfavorable legal rulings http://www.edn.com/article/CA6468789.html as part of its ongoing litigation with rival chipmaker Broadcom Corp. http://www.broadcom.com

"After an extensive nationwide search, we are very pleased to welcome Don to Qualcomm's executive team," Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm, said in a statement. "Don is a talented lawyer who will immediately provide valuable insights to our executive and legal teams as he manages and directs the company's complex worldwide litigation."

Rosenberg received a B.S. in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a J.D. from St. John's University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Law Review. In addition, he was an adjunct professor of law at Pace University School of Law in New York, where he taught courses in intellectual property and antitrust law.
