Bearing in mind the massive tomes now necessary to record our taxation laws, tomes which need to be reprinted twice a year, I commented how much simpler our first tax law had been. It was to be found in just 22 pages of the annual volume of Commonwealth statutes for 1915.

To my surprise, the very polite and pleasant officer with whom I was speaking, said he knew of the original legislation. If I understood him correctly, he had learned of it during one of the courses he had undertaken with the ATO.
