Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge met with Mexican officials in early March to discuss remedies. Ridge believes that the maze of U.S. agencies supervising the border must be integrated and their work harmonized with their Mexican counterparts. Moreover, a new electronic pass was proposed that would identify containerized cargo and the truckers carrying it, as well as frequent cross-border commuters. This would help alleviate the long delays that have plagued border crossings since the terrorist attacks.
