An unwelcome proposal

The creation of a Community Patent that would offer a unitary patent right with effect throughout Europe has been discussed without success for more than 30 years. Discussions have always stumbled on the choice of language for the patent. Following a European Council meeting in March 2003, substantial progress has been made in reaching an agreement on this point. A Community Patent is now closer than ever before, but the European business community has not welcomed the recent proposal.
