Denkendorf Institute improves roller coverings for drafting systems.(Equipment)

A new kind of roller covering for use in drafting systems has been developed by a research team at the Denkendorf Institute in Germany.

US Patent 7 140 172, assigned to the Institute, says that normally a pressure roller is loaded to run against its lower counterpart. However, with the passage of fibre, the coverings on both can become worn.

The covering on the pressure roller is normally a low friction material mounted over and inner layer of low friction material. This outer layer will normally be thinner than the inner layer. Generally at least a portion
