ISO 14000 seminars are geared to help U.S. companies turn environmental concerns into good...

WEST CHESTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 1995--An eight-city series of business seminars exploring the emerging worldwide environmental management standards that will benchmark global competition in the 21st century was launched Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Three leading environmental firms

have teamed to conduct learning seminars on the ISO 14000 environmental standards being developed by the Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization. The first of six environmental management standards is expected to be introduced in 1996.

The sponsoring alliance includes Roy F. Weston Inc. (WESTON), West Chester, Pa., leading international environmental consultants; Bureau Veritas Quality International (BQVI), London, an independent global certification organization; and Manko Gold & Katcher, Philadelphia, a full-service environmental law practice.

"Environmental concerns are moving rapidly into the international business mainstream," said WESTON Vice President Glenn K. Nestel. "Europe is already on the bandwagon, adding environmental values to product quality as mandatory conditions for competing in the world market."

Nestel said that European businesses have a ten-to-one registration edge over North American companies for previously issued ISO 9000 product quality standards.

"The purpose of our seminars is to help Business America catch up with current practices, implementation and cost-savings and marketing opportunities under the ISO 14000 banner," he said. "Basically, we're telling business managers how they can use the standards themselves as strategic tools to gain and maintain a competitive advantage into the year 2000 and beyond."
