Waste Management Inc. will spend more than $3 million to settle a case with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for allegedly improperly collecting appliances and releasing refrigerants into Boston's air.
The settlement resolves federal claims that the company, through its Waste Management of Massachusetts Inc. subsidiary, collected refrigerators and air conditioners with packer trucks from July 1997 to July 1998, the EPA said.
