Now more than ever, it has become practical to be principled. If we want to help rebuild trust in the capitalist economic system, we must take action.

The issue of ethical capitalism and its importance is critical to building winning, self-governing cultures based firmly in trust. This article is derived from Seidman's remarks at the NGMA World Congress 2005 in Phoenix, Arizona.

As we entered the 21st century, economic, physical, and spiritual security were all profoundly challenged. September llth deeply affected our sense of security and invulnerability. Religious leaders abused the sacred trusts of parishioners. Mainstream media misled readers with fabricated sources. A prolonged recession undermined hopes for financial prosperity, and a great wave of corporate scandals rocked the public's faith in the way America does business.

The outcome of which has manifested itself in a comprehensive loss of the trust in the institutions and leaders of our civil society. These events also feed the perception that the modus operandi of those in power in the corporate world is to pursue one's own desires by any means necessary.
