With Free Speech Concerns, Federal Anti-Spam Bill Tough to Write.

Jul. 10--WASHINGTON--Microsoft Corp. and other Internet-related companies expressed support Wednesday for strong federal legislation to control the flood of junk e-mail known as "spam."

But consumer groups said legislation before two House committees doesn't go far enough, and a representative of the Washington State Attorney General's Office said tough penalties are needed to ensure any law will be successful.
