ARTBA-TDF Scholarships

Washington, D.C.— The children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled on the job will receive financial assistance in their pursuit of higher education thanks to scholarships announced by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF).

Students from Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia have been named 2007 recipients of the ARTBA-TDF's Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship. Recipients include William (Brandon) Rice, Centerville, Ind. (he is attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.); Loria Wright, St. Louisville, Ohio (she is attending DeVry University in Columbus, Ohio); and Lily Beth Parsons, Sandyville, W. Va. (she is attending the University of West Virginia in Morgantown).

More than 1,000 people — including more than 100 highway workers — are killed every year in roadway construction work zone accidents. An additional 40,000 people were injured in these sites.
