Mom Corps Connects Working Moms with Flexible Jobs

Allison O'Kelly worked as an accountant until her son was born in 2003. Though the large corporation for which she worked offered a part time schedule, the schedule lacked the thing that she needed most to both work and take care of her new family - flexibility.

"It wasn't about hours," says O'Kelly, but instead about the ability to work when it was convenient - for instance, during nap time and bedtime - rather than when the traditional jobforce is up and about.

So O'Kelly did what any great business woman will do - packed in the corporate job and began contracting herself out instead.

"It took me about a year and a half before I had so much work that I was parsing it out to my friends who were accountants," she laughs.

When the companies for which she worked began asking where she found the great talent she was sending their way, O'Kelly realized she was on to something - and so the idea behind Mom Corps was born.

In July of 2005, Mom Corps began, and since that time O'Kelly has found workers for companies in need of employees that can do work on a non-traditional schedule. This might include a bookkeeper that works full time for five months only, or an accountant that needs only five hours each week. These companies post jobs on the board that mothers can search.
