BJ's Wholesale Club Breaks Ground on New Distribution Center; 618,000 Square Foot Distribution Center to Support Additional Club Growth.
NATICK, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. today broke ground on a 618,000 square foot, state-of-the-art distribution center in Uxbridge, Mass. The new facility will be located at 689 Quaker Highway and is scheduled to open in July 2006. Once completed, it will replace a smaller distribution center currently located in Franklin, Mass. The facility will employ 128 Team Members and is expected to generate more than 60 new jobs over the next four years.
"The construction of this new facility signifies BJ's growth as a company," explained Mike Wedge, President and CEO of BJ's Wholesale Club. "Our new distribution center is key to our ability to support a greater number of Clubs as we continue to grow and expand in the Northeast."
The BJ's distribution center in Uxbridge will be one of three facilities supporting 159 Clubs across the eastern United States. When it opens, the facility will service 61 Clubs throughout Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York and will have the capacity to support up to 86 Clubs. It will be capable of accepting and distributing over 500 truckloads of product each day at its 239 loading dock doors and will have 560 tractor trailer parking spaces. The center will have state-of-the-art digital systems for security and payroll and Team Members will communicate with different areas of the business using wireless communication.
