The New York State Chapter of the Associated General Contractors has awarded a record 22 scholarships to students pursuing construction management, construction tech and civil engineering degrees in the hopes of working in the highway construction industry. Of the scholarships, 21 are worth $2,500
The winning students are studying at a range of institutions from Clarkson, Duke, Columbia, Notre Dame, and Princeton universities to Erie County, Hudson Valley and Broome community colleges. Several students are studying at SUNY system schools, including SUNY at Delhi, Buffalo and Utica/Rome. Additionally there were winning students from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology and Alfred State College, all of which have a long history of producing AGC Scholarship winners.
Eleven of the 22 are repeat winners, with three of those receiving a scholarship for the third time.
"This is more scholarships than we've ever given out in the program's 16-year history," said Jeffrey Hanlon, chairman of the AGC Scholarship & Student Chapters Committee and president of Slate Hill Constructors of Warners, New York. "On behalf of the membership of the AGC, I would like to congratulate all these students. The industry is always looking for talented newcomers, particularly now as our workforce is aging, and we are pleased to be able to help these worthy young men and women pursue their college degrees."
