Thousands Expected to Seek Work at Toyota Plant in San Antonio.

Oct. 16--In this midsize city with a moody economy, where 12,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost since 2000, eyes are looking southwest toward Applewhite Road.

There, Toyota Motor Corp. will break ground Friday on a plant where Tundra trucks will be built starting in summer 2006. The automaker plans to hire 2,000 workers, or "team members," at pay expected to be around $20 per hour.

In the larger scheme of things, that should help soothe the sting of job losse
