The Associated General Contractors, Greater Detroit Chapter (AGC) recently awarded scholarships to two students who have demonstrated drive, dedication and leadership in their pursuit of careers in the construction industry.
The 2004–2005 O.L. Pfaffmann Construction Industry Scholarship Award recipient is Christopher Dezsi. Dezsi is a junior in the construction management program at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). In addition to maintaining a high grade point average, Dezsi is the current president of EMU's AGC student chapter, the Eastern Constructors. He is also active in his local community where he serves as a volunteer coach and scorekeeper for the recreation department. EMU faculty recognize Dezsi as a highly motivated student with clear goals and objectives. O.L. Pfaffmann, chair emeritus of Woods Construction Company, presented the award.
The O.L. Pfaffmann Construction Industry Scholarship was established in 1992 as a tribute to Pfaffmann's dedication to the AGC and construction education. Pfaffmann served as president of the AGC Greater Detroit Chapter in 1981.
The 2004–2005 Thomas E. Dailey Construction Leadership Award recipient is Deirdre Greene. Greene is a junior in the building construction management (BCM) program at Michigan State University (MSU). In addition to maintaining a high grade point average, she currently holds or has recently held office in the Student Builder's and Contractor's Association, Sigma Lamda Chi, an international construction honors society, Student Lounge Clean-up Committee, and the Resume Book Committee. She is also active in the community with service in Habitat for Humanity, and community service projects. Stephen Dailey, president of The Dailey Company, and son of Thomas E. Dailey, presented the award.
The Thomas E. Dailey Leadership Award was established in 2002 to honor another of AGC's dedicated members.
