SBC SNET Move to Eliminate 80 Jobs in Connecticut Seen as Precursor.

Jan. 8--The Communications Workers of America calls New Haven-based SBC SNET's decision to cut 80 jobs in the state and offer displaced union workers positions in sales a prelude to moving jobs out of Connecticut.

Beverly Levy, SBC SNET spokeswoman, said Wednesday the company is cutting 80 positions in the state but is offering all the workers new jobs in other departments. All those affected are in the union and are being offered union jobs, she said.
