Oct. 14--Employees at most West Virginia Kroger stores walked off the job at 10 p.m. Monday, and company and union officials say the stores probably wouldn't be open for at least a couple of days and maybe much longer.
The two sides remain far apart, especially on Kroger's proposal to force workers to pay more for health care to help the company compete financially with nonunion stores such as Wal-Mart. Negotiations ended Saturday and there were no plans to resume talks as
